Residential Pressure Washer - What's Best?

I figured I would ask this to the Pros for the best response. I assume you guys know best. I borrowed a old beat up pressure washer from a friend. I am not sure what make it was but it did run a Honda engine. The thing was on on its last leg, but I gave it a shot and got awesome results. I was worried the thing was going to crap out on me and I would feel obligated to buy my buddy a new one, but it held up for the job. My neighbors are having so pros do work for them around my neighborhood and they are charging around 3 or 4 hundred bucks. I just feel like I would get better use out of actually owning one. The things I would be using it for are sidewalks (I have about 70 yards), garage floor, deck, and truck under carriage. I am sure family will be also borrowing the thing for their odds and ends. This is basically what I have lined up now and I am sure other small jobs will also come up. I would really like to spend less than $400.00 for the thing. Like I said I am not looking for...

How to Clean Brick and Concrete With a Pressure Washer?

Start by choosing the proper pressure and nozzle tip. To help you setup your pressure washer correctly, check out these tips and tricks. A pressure washer with about 3 gpm and 3000 psi is ideal for most concrete and brick cleaning jobs. Choose the tip with the widest angle that still gets the job done to prevent degrading the surface of the hardscape. 3 Steps To Pressure Clean a Brick Driveway: Soak the brick driveway down with water. Do this with your most delicate spray nozzle. The point of this is to get the entire brick surface wet so it doesn’t absorb the detergent. Now apply the proper detergent with the proper nozzle ensuring you get the entire surface covered. Let it to its work for 5 minutes ensure you keep the surface wet the entire time. Now attach the 25-degree rinsing nozzle to remove all the dirt, grime, mildew and detergent. The key is more detergent and less pressure with brick. You don’t want to destroy the mortar (which is strong but the weak point in a b...

Which Pressure Washer Would You Get: Troy Bilt or Simpson?

I have the older version of the Troy Bilt, works fine. It doesn't really have enough umph to run a surface cleaner; it does ok with a turbo nozzle but it's slow going if you've got a lot of area to clean. I need to try my foam cannon on my electric, it's kind of a pain to fire up the gas washer just to wash the car. Troy Bilt was bought out by MTD, a well known low end homeowner outdoor power equipment manufacturer in 2001. While they did not change the TroyBilt rototiller, thay have slapped that logo on many other products that do NOT have the same build quality and durability. IMHO, the most important thing is a pump that can do >2000 PSI @ >2.0 GPM and is rebuildable. My son borrowed a Vortexx VX20304D to clean his cedar fence before we re-stained it. It is a "prosumer" model and it really put my consumer pressure washer to shame ! Honda GX200 engine and an AR RCV pump. I think this thing would stand toe-to-toe with most professional pressure...

RIDGID RD80763 3300 PSI Pressure Washer Blows Smoke?

My RD80763 (3300 PW) has less than an hour of runtime. Iwas using it yesterday with the 15 angle tip. After 5 minutes, the engine started shaking and blew a big puff of (oil) smoke from the muffler. I was on level ground, I had adequate water supply, I added the prescribed oil upon assembly. In the course of the next 15 minutes, it blew smoke 2 more times. I shut it off and checked the oil...good. I started it again and ran for 5 more minutes...no problem. What happened?! To answer the question about the customer with the oil smoke issue, the answer is that the oil is getting into the combustion chamber or muffler. Here are the possible reasons: 1. If the unit is new, it may have been stored up side down or on its side and the small amount of oil that remains in the crankcase after production will seep into the combustion chamber or the carburetor or the muffler or the breather system. If this happens the engine will smoke a little during the first tank of fuel and then run p...
